How to fall asleep right away: tips for insomniacs!
Counting sheep is not enough? Here's how to fall asleep right away and get a good night's rest
How many times have you collapsed on the couch in front of the TV, but then once in bed you couldn't close your eyes? Insomnia is one of the most annoying and frequent disorders, although fortunately in its milder forms.
However, sleeping little and badly causes fatigue, irritability and migraines. But how to fall asleep immediately in order to best recover energy?
What is insomnia?
Going through one or more sleepless nights happens to everyone. Thoughts, important commitments, worries, physical pain, a heavy dinner are all possible causes.
Actual insomnia, however, is something else: overall, we are talking about a frequent and persistent disorder that causes difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, and thus frequent awakenings. The result? Getting up tired, irritated, sleepy and during the day everything becomes complicated.
In general, this is a state in which there is a decrease in sleep duration, but this is subjective: specialists agree on how many hours you need to sleep (7 to 9 for adults) but everyone has a personal need for sleep.
Depending on the duration, insomnia is classified into:
Occasional: lasts a few days and is related to other factors (emotional tension, noise, environmental temperature, physical discomfort, illness, etc.)
Transient: lasts up to three weeks
Chronic: persists over time
What are the causes?
Insomnia is rarely a primary sleep disorder, because very often it is a symptom or side effect, so the problem is something else.
In addition to psychological and emotional causes, there are several medical conditions that can make sleep complicated such as:
Arthritis
Allergies
Asthma
Gastrointestinal problems
Nighttime sleep apnea
Back and neck pain
... but how to fall asleep right away?
Therefore, to understand how to fall asleep immediately and rest well, it is important to go to the source of the problem and solve it. In general, however, it is necessary to take care of so-called sleep hygiene. How?
1. Avoid caffeine in the late afternoon/evening hours.
2. Avoid afternoon naps.
3. Do not consume heavy meals at dinner.
4. Do not exercise in the two hours before bedtime.
5. Make sure the room is a good environment (quiet, dark, airy and comfortable temperature).
6. Make use of so-called good sleeping plants such as lavender to make infusions to drink before bedtime.
7. Lying down on a proper mattress and pillow, which prevent pain and muscle tension.
8. Follow a regular sleep pattern (lie down and get up at about the same time all the time).
Which mattress or pillow is better to choose?
To improve the quality of sleep, in any case, it is always essential to make sure you sleep on proper supports. No herbal tea, even if miraculous, will in fact be able to make you sleep well on an uncomfortable mattress or pillow!
